Principal Design Engineer needed to run a team responsible for delivering highway schemes within the Highways Agency Area 8. To lead and mentor junior level technical staff assisting in the delivery of those schemes. The team provides designs for a range of highway design and maintenance projects for motorway and trunk roads using a range of software packages. Providing a responsive, customer focused service to external and internal clients.

Key Relationships:

• Internal – Civil, Geotechnical & Structural Engineers
  
• External – Client, Highways Agency; Designers, URS

  Key Tasks:

• Management of the production of designs for projects according to Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
  
• Direct liaison with Client with ability to assist client in the development of project briefs
  
• Have an aptitude to multi task and to be self-starting in new business environments and service areas.
  
• Management of projects to programme and budget,
  Project development including preparation of briefs, scope of works etc, completion of technical tasks as appropriate to complete the works, liaison with clients, stakeholders, other professional bodies and contractors to Carillion-URS Quality Assurance procedures.
  
• Responsible for working with the rest of the Area 8 team in advancing our technical capability to the highest standard. This will include identifying innovative approaches and techniques and presenting technical papers.
  
• Using relevant software packages.

Conditions:
8 hour day in office based environment at Carillion-URS offices in Kettering. Will be required to attend client meetings and site visits on occasions.

Qualifications:
Minimum Civil Engineering degree level or equivalent. Chartered Engineer preferred, but otherwise Incorporated Engineer plus relevant experience.

Person Specification

Advanced (12years +) experience of:
Experience and knowledge of design to DMRB.
Specific experience in the design of renewals and LMNS schemes as part of Highways Agency Area Contracts.
