Job Description

Cobalt Recruitment are recruiting for a Research & Statistics Officer to join a South London Borough economic development and regeneration team. This contract position, to be reviewed after the initial 6 months, is an immediate requirement.

The job description is as follows:

Working across the Strategic Development Unit, research, analyse, present and disseminate statistical and other data and performance information relating to economic, social and environmental well being. To assist with the identification, development and submission of external bids and submissions and monitor those programmes.

• Maintain a sound knowledge of policy, regulations, central government and regional agency requirements for performance, data and external funding opportunities. Prepare presentations and data in a range of formats, including the use of spatial data mapping.
• Produce briefings on information and data analysis identifying local and regional implications. Interrogate Census data and other primary and secondary data, using a variety of software packages, including SASPAC, SPSS, Access, Excel, Mapinfo and GIS.
• Respond to information requests and enquiries internally and from external agencies and individuals and present this in an accessible and timely manner. Design and carry out paper based and electronic surveys including data analysis and reporting and complete responses to surveys carried out by other organisations.
• Respond to and comply with Audit and financial requirements, including data validation, quality and processes. Maintain and track timetables for key business processes, such as performance information, contract tender and billing, project delivery, submission of bids, completion of returns, ensuring deadlines are met.
• Input, validate, maintain and interrogate data sets providing outputs such as evidence for national indicators and social infrastructure planning. Work out of the office and visit occupied and unoccupied sites as required
• Represent the team at meetings across the Council and external agencies as and when required.
• Excellent Excel Skills: Competent importing large datasets into excel Competent sorting and filtering large datasets, to display required information Confident managing large datasets, with the ability to hide, protect cells where necessary Confident copy and pasting data using paste special Confident formatting cells and worksheets in order to present data appropriately, including the use of conditional formatting Excellent knowledge of formulas and functions (particularly: If and Countif statements, Concatenate and VLookup) Ability to convert text to columns Proficient in the production of charts and graphs to present data visually Good understanding of pivot tables for the interrogation of large datasets Ability to link worksheets and workbooks.
