Associate Specialist In Gastroenterology/Acute Medicine

Medacs Healthcare

Medacs Healthcare

Job Description

Gastroenterology practice on the Island is of necessity more broadly-based than that found in the UK mainland hospitals. Working closely with the Consultant, House Officer and the multidisciplinary teams both on the endoscopy unit and on the general medical wards, the post provides an unparalleled opportunity to practice all aspects of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and to manage patients admitted from unselected acute medical admissions including coronary care and intensive care.

The nature of the post demands that the successful candidate has extensive experience in all aspects of gastroenterology and endoscopy and has acquired a broad base of clinical experience in general medical specialities. In terms of practical experience, the appointee should be proficient in all aspects of diagnostic endoscopy and general gastroenterology and general medicine. Experience in the acute management and endoscopy of upper GI bleeds is advantageous but not essential.

It is expected that the appointee will have a minimum of 10 years post-qualification clinical experience, with a minimum of 4 years spent as a Registrar, Specialist Registrar or Staff Grade; At least 2 of these 4 years to have been whole time (or whole time equivalent) within the specialty of Gastroenterology and endoscopy. They must have audit data to show their competence in gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

The post holder will require FULL registration with the UK General Medical Council.

The post holder must have sufficient fluency in English to carryout his/her duties safely and effectively and with a degree of independence.
