Job Description
Direct Work with Children and Families
·Use a range of interventions, as agreed with Practice Advisor/Team Manager, to engage the child and family in working towards the objectives of the Care Plan. The range includes one to one work and group work.
Looked After Children
·Ensure that all Looked After Children's Care Plans are informed by ongoing assessment of need, using the Assessment and Action Records, and consultation with the child/young person and their family.
·Prepare for and participate in the regular review of the child / young person's Care Plan and placement arrangements within the statutory timescales.
·Ensure that the child / young person is fully consulted prior to any reviews or placement meetings.
·Contribute to and be familiar with the child / young person's Personal Education Plan.
·Contribute to and be familiar with the child / young person's Individual Health Plan
Case Management
·Manage an assigned caseload of children and families in compliance with agreed casework objectives, statutory and departmental policy and procedural requirements.
·Advise the Supervisor / Team Manager of proposed care plans, progress and achievements and seek authorisation for decision making inline with departmental delegated powers and supervisory policy.
·Listen to the views of the child / young person and their family.
·Maintain accurate and up to date case records which comply with departmental policy and procedures.
·Co-operate in providing statistical and other information to assess the effectiveness of social work services and to help the department achieve strategic objectives.
·Advise the Team Manager of resource, support and administrative needs including identification of shortfall leading to unacceptable risks.
·Undertake office duty responsibilities as directed by a Team Manager.
Professional Development
·Use the regular supervision meetings to reflect on:
i)Casework, including overall plans and objectives
ii)Professional development
iii)Accountability and priority of work
·Attend staff meetings
·Prepare for and contribute to the annual appraisal
·As identified in the annual professional appraisal, undertake any necessary training e.g. the Post Qualifying Award in Child Care.
·Keep up to date with service and professional developments
General
·Ensure that records and information about Service Users are accurate, up-to-date, secure and maintained using information technology in line with data entry systems as appropriate and in line with the Data Protection Act.
·Be 'Information Technology' literate and willing to develop further skills in this area.
·Promote equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice in all areas of practice and service delivery.
·Willing to work flexible hours as required
·Undertake other identified duties as appropriate, in consultation with the Team Manager, Principal Manager and Head of Children's Services.
·Comply with any relevant GSCC determined code of conduct.

Assessment and Planning
·Undertake single or joint agency enquiries to assess likely and actual harm to children and take appropriate action to ensure their safety.
·Develop and implement child protection plans.
Direct Work with Children and Families
·Convene and facilitate family group conferences.
·Plan and facilitate groupwork support for children, young people and their carers.
·Contribute to the range of Family Support Services provided through Kingston's Family Support Forum.
Looked After Children
·Contribute to the annual review process of foster carers.
·Participate in the foster carer training programme.
·Ensure the completion of Pathway Plans for Care Leavers.
Case Management
·Prepare and present reports for Child Protection Conferences.
·Prepare reports for public law applications in relation to children and young people.
·Present oral evidence at public law proceedings.
·Prepare reports and advise the Courts in private law proceedings.
Professional Development
·Provide 'Practice Teaching' support to trainee social workers and undertake the practice teaching award training.
·Undertake the Post Qualifying Award Training.
Agency Representation
·Represent the department as required at internal, multi-agency and public meetings.

Assessment and Planning
·Undertake complex assessments with children, young people and their families where there are specific concerns requiring a high level of specialist involvement.
·Apply advanced knowledge of a wide range of legislation and policies.
Direct Work with Children and Families
·Co-ordinate and deliver direct work support to children and young people who have experienced serious trauma.
Looked After Children
·Chair statutory placement reviews for Looked After Children
Case Management
·Chair child protection strategy meetings.
·Chair professionals' meetings for junior colleagues.
·Facilitate Family Group Conferences.
Professional Development
·Supervise trainee and main grade social workers.
·Participate on specialist 'Task and Finish' groups.
·Provide consultation and advice to junior colleagues.
Agency Representation
·Represent the department on specialist panels [ including the Adoption Panel, the Fostering Panel and the Multi-Agency Public Protection Panel] as required.
