Job Description
Design Co-ordinator, Construction. Design and Build experience preferred. The position will be office based in north-west London with site visits as required, or site based in the Docklands area initially. Working for an established Contractor.
The Role is for a Design Co-ordinator / Design Manager to report directly to the Managing Director. Responsibility will include delivery of current and future live projects, whilst working closely with the project teams throughout construction. Projects range from £3m to over £75m within the commercial and residential sectors. The role will involve managing the design process on design and construction projects, both at tender and contract stages.
The Position will involve working on a wide range of Design issues including Pre- and Post- Contracts works for the successful delivery of new build construction projects. Day to day Design Co-ordination involving Project Teams and assimilation of Design Information is essential. The Design Co-ordinator will provide technical advice, guidance and support during the pre- and post-construction phases and will act as a design interface both internally and externally to ensure the design criteria and process is provided to construction sites.
Requirements for the role:
• Current knowledge and experience in Construction related legislation
• An in depth experience of working in the construction industry
• BSc in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent preferred
• Excellent prioritisation and time management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral
• PC Literate, with good knowledge of MS applications e.g. Word, Excel
• Ability to work on your own initiative
• Adept at problem solving, methodical in approach
• Confident personality to lead and motivate Project team members
Principal Duties will include:
• Identify innovative and creative design solutions in order meet client specifications
• Identify key aspects of the pre-commencement processes
• Managing the design process on Design & Build Projects
• Ensure the design process is completed on time
• Co-ordinate the various designers to ensure the completed design as a whole is a workable scheme (build ability)
• Value engineer the existing design to improve it and save money
• To ensure design information is properly communicated to all relevant parties and adequate records are kept
• Co-ordinate the design process, produce/develop design control documentation ensuring effective execution and timely submission for construction issue
• To co ordinate with external consultants to identify specific design requirements for projects and to manage the design process to ensure that design information is correct, audited, provided on time and distributed as required
• Manage and co-ordinate the approval and issue of drawings and specification to site in a timely manner
• In conjunction with external consultants to discharge planning conditions / reserved matters, obtain Building Regulations approval, client approvals, and other statutory approvals, i.e. Environmental Health, Highways
• Provide advice to the design team regarding factors affecting price
• Provide assistance during the service enquiry function through liaison with service providers, obtaining building control records
• Ensure project design information is accurate and submitted according to deadline
• To assist with all aspects of the Service Enquiry function and to respond / action as appropriate. To arrange payment of diversions, temporary supplies and permanent supplies
• To advise in conjunction with others in the design team on factors effecting price
• To pre plan and arrange all aspects of enabling works so that works can start on site
• To identify the key aspects of the pre commencement processes and advise department accordingly
• In conjunction with external consultants coordinate the complete design process, liaising with Architects, Civil Engineers, Structural Engineers, Acoustic Engineers, and others as required to ensure that the design process proceeds smoothly
Salary expectations will be readily met for the ideal candidate, and a negotiable £65,000 neg. salary is offered along with a substantial benefits package to suit, that can include Car / Car Allowance and Bonuses.
