Job Description

One of the UK's largest multi-disciplinary engineering consultancies requires a Geotechnical Engineer to join their established geotechnical team in East Sussex. 12 months experience is required as a minimum.

The Role

The successful candidate will be required to be involved in everything from conducting geotechnical walk over surveys, to liaising with design offices and contractors. In the office you'll carry out pre-construction work design and desk studies, as well as post construction reporting; on site you'll be responsible for supervising construction. The role is offered on a contractual basis, but the opportunity exists for an extended contract for the right candidate.

Principal Accountabilities

Provide engineering geology and or geotechnical engineering advice as central part of a team, supporting one or more senior staff int he delivery of the design and specification of geotechnical projects which includes ports, pipelines, railways and highways
Research and report on desk study searches
Design and supervision of geotechnical and geo-environmental site investigations
Management and interpretation of geotechnical and geo-environmental data
Preparation of reports
Carry out design calculations
Specify construction works and lead the preparation of drawings
Assist in the supervision of construction of civil works
Be prepared to work away from home for short assignments
Longer term assignments and secondments of 3-6 months may be available
Assess cost implications to clients' project budgets
Identify and assess health, safety and environmental implications
Implement the principles of Quality Management
Work with other members of the geotechnical team and liaise with specialists from other disciplines

Requirements

Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or Geology (or equivalent)
A further degree or specialisation in Geotechnical Engineering is desirable
Proven track record in geotechnical design and use of geotechnical software
Understanding of health, safety and environmental risk assessment and management
Familiar with UK/Ireland construction practice
Experience in implementation of DMRB, ICE and British Standards
Valid drivers licence
Strong IT and communication skills
Ability to work on your own and manage your own time
Willing and able to work in a team environment
