Job Description

Quantity Surveyor – Trainee – Design & Build – London. An extremely dynamic civils contractor has opened a new “Basement Division”. Expanding from a very sound financial footing, the company is now successfully expanding the new stand alone “Basement Division”.

City based, the focus of operations will be on up-market properties, constructing de-luxe, below ground extensions. These projects will invariably be in occupied houses in prime residential areas with clients who have high expectations and requirements. The area of work will be primarily in London in congested areas where the property footprint is already fully utilised and the option is to expand below ground.

Project values will be in the £2m to £8m range and there will be up to 5 or 6 projects running concurrently. The end use will range from wine cellars to swimming pools to cinemas to residential extensions, but all will have upper market specifications.

The Company currently turns over in excess of £40m on their existing and successful divisions in the build, civil and leisure sectors and their current Scope of Works includes:
• Demolition
• Groundworks
• Land Remediation
• RC frames
• Basements and Specialist Underpinning
• Drainage and External Works
• Ground Improvements

Your Profile will be that of a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, ideally with a tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering who has some experience in the field of structural alterations, Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

The Role that you will fulfil includes working with the Senior Estimator and Senior Quantity Surveyor as well as with the Senior Contracts Manager, assisting them in taking off quantities and materials from schedules and drawings. You may have come from an Engineering background and be keen to use those skills in the Commercial side.
Health & Safety are of extremely high importance on all the sites and the Company monitors levels of health and safety and understands the importance of integrating and working closely with site teams to ensure a safe working environment for everyone concerned. All employees hold relevant certificates for plant and machinery and are CPCS/CITB/CSCS cardholders and the Company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements as dictated by the HSE. You will be expected to promote a strong Health & Safety culture.
Rewards are definitely above the industry average but will only be offered to applicants who can clearly show that they have the requisite skills. Fully IT conversant, you will have good oral and written communication skills. A full and valid driving licence will be an advantage.
