POST TITLE: Social Worker
DIVISION/SECTION: Children in Need Team
Responsible to: Team Manager/Assistant Team Manager
JOB PURPOSE
1.1 To provide quality social work services to children and their families based on the policy and objectives of the Social Services Department.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
2.1To carry a caseload of child care cases, which include child protection, court work, children accommodated, and family support.
2.2To employ a variety of social skills and methods in order to achieve specific objectives as agreed with service users and the Team Manager / Assistant Team Manager.
2.3To work with cases in accordance with the aims and objectives of the LB's Children's Services Strategy and the principles of the Children Act.
2.4To take account of a child's and their family's cultural, racial and linguistic background and religious persuasion in providing services.
2.5To accept responsibility for efficient caseload management.
2.6To contribute when required by their Team Manager or Service Manager to the maintenance of Children's Services across the Division.
2.7To maintain accurate and up to date records as required by the Department.
2.8To prepare reports for Courts, case conferences, panels and other purposes as required.
2.9To staff and service the duty service desk by participation in the duty rota.
2.10To attend team meetings and participate in team development.
2.11To prepare for and attend supervision sessions and carry out actions as agreed in each session.
2.12To attend relevant training courses.
2.13To work in accordance with departmental and branch policy and procedures.
2.14To use computers and other information technology in the normal performance and duties of the post.
2.15To work closely with other agencies (health, education, police, voluntary sector etc) to ensure families receive a coordinated response and appropriate services.

2.17To be aware of and understand the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy and ensure that at all times the duties of the post are carried out in accordance with the policy.
2.18To ensure that the Corporate and Departmental Health and Safety Policies are implemented at all times and to raise any concerns regarding their operation, or any other health and safety matter with the appropriate senior line manager.
2.19To ensure that within the scope of the job purpose, the Council's aims in relation to customer service are achieved.
2.20To maintain an awareness of current instructions circulated by Staff meetings, information bulletins, circular letters or by verbal or written information given by the Senior Officer on duty.
2.21To respect the confidential nature of the work.
2.22Undertake such other duties as may be required by, or on behalf of, the Director provided they fall within the range and scope of the duties of the post as set out in the preceding paragraphs and are commensurate with the grade of the post.
