Job Description

Quantity Surveyor to work near Kings Cross on architectural metalwork. Working in the central London area with very occasional requirements to travel to Ireland.

The Role. Quantity Surveyor - The ideal candidate will preferably come from a specialist sub contract background within the construction industry however we will consider applications from Quantity Surveyors within the building sector.

Background. You must have previous experience of working in a specialist sub-contract background, ideally with knowledge and experience of steelwork. The core products are stainless steel and mild steel architectural metalwork ie staircases, handrails, balustrades, balconies and cladding.

This is a growing company with an annual turnover of approx £25million, formed in the eighties, progressing from a family run business to a market leader in the UK and Ireland.

The company has a tradition of forming and maintaining strong relationships with the top performers in the construction, commercial, retail and the highly competitive rail industry. They are engaged by many of the leading engineering consultants and architects operating throughout the UK in helping to engineer and design fast-track building solutions.

Salary. The salary will range to £70,000. Company laptop, mobile, life assurance, pension scheme and performance related bonus twice yearly.

Profile:
Education
• A recognised qualification in a Surveying/Building discipline.
Experience
• Should have a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ relevant experience within the construction industry or with a specialist sub-contractor
Job Knowledge
• Administrative Filing Systems
• Sound commercial acumen and ability to identify opportunities for profitable business development and performance improvement.
Skills
• Microsoft Office to include Microsoft Word and Excel, E-mail and Internet use.
• Excellent Communication skills both orally and written
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and use own initiative to problem solve, utilise resources and take action to meet objectives and targets.
• Ability to work as part of a Team from Director level through to Sub-contractor level.

Key Responsibilities
Preparation and agreement of:
• monthly interim payment arrangements as appropriate
• post contract and final accounts
• Final payments to sub-contractors while first ensuring complete clearance of all defects
• Costing and agreement of valuations.
• Visiting all sites on a regular basis to monitor progress and variations.
• Preparation of forecast monthly valuations.
• Make monthly reports to company finance director as required to monitor the cost and profitability of all ongoing contracts.
• Advise and keep advised, the directors of the company of all known risks in any project proposals, take steps where necessary to minimise all exposure to risk by utilisation of third party professional advice, insurance and such like.
• Team Work - Liaise, co-operate and work as a team together with all directors and office staff, contract managers and site supervisors, personnel and sub contractors to ensure excellence in communication and in all outcomes connected with the company.
