PRINCIPAL ENGINEER - DEVELOPMENT INFRASTRUCTURE
An opportunity exists in the Maidstone office to appoint a Principal Engineer to enhance the established infrastructure team. The team enjoys a substantial and varied workload across a number of market sectors with an extremely wide client portfolio. The team principally serves both public ... private sector clients. The team has access to micro simulation modelling and GIS systems to ensure that work can be carried out in the most effective way.
The Principal Engineer would work as part of a team on a number of projects at any given time. Generally he/she would report to an Associate or Associate Director and be responsible for planning and delegation of design work, day to day management of more junior staff as well as the concept design of projects themselves. He or she would act as a day to day point of contact for clients and would be encouraged to develop these relationships to deliver future project opportunities.
Opportunities exist for rapid career progression. Training courses to enhance technical and managerial skills are available. The Principal Engineer will, in turn, be expected to provide mentoring and technical support to more junior staff in order that they may develop their careers.
It is envisaged that the successful recruit will be an experienced engineer working towards or approaching Chartered status with significant experience of a number of the following:
· Infrastructure Planning
· Highways drainage and flood related design
· Negotiations with Local Highway and Water Authorities
· Client liaison and fee negotiation
He/she will have a good working knowledge of the design of sewerage using [WinDes] together with some in the design of Sustainable Drainage Systems. He/she will have experience of applying relevant design standards such as Sewers for Adoption and Local Authorities' Design Codes. Some experience in flood studies and flood risk assessment is expected. AutoCAD is the basic design tool in the office and the recruit would be expected to be familiar with this application. Experience in highway design using KTF or MX/Moss with experience of applying local and national design guidance would be an advantage.
The successful applicant will probably be from a consultancy or development background and will have good spoken and written communication skills. The recruit will work within one of the teams in the development infrastructure group. He or she will co-ordinate the work of more junior staff and mentor them in their technical development. Opportunities will exist for on the job and off the job training to further individual skills and achieve career progression.
